The West Papillion Retention Basin 5 Project (WP-5) is one of 15 proposed regional detention basins in the Papillion Creek Watershed Management Plan [insert link]. The Papio-Missouri River Natural Resources District (P-MRNRD) completed a Preliminary Design for WP-5 in 2009. Various construction alternatives for WP-5 were evaluated during the preliminary design process. Public input was obtained through a series of public workshops and watershed workgroups. This input was used to develop two key planning documents:
Because of the flood reduction benefits it will provide to the City of Papillion and surrounding area, WP-5 was placed at the top of the Papillion Creek Watershed Management Plan project priority list, for 2010 to 2013 implementation.
Preliminary design was completed in late 2009 and final design began in early 2010. Construction is slated to begin in late 2010.
